Page Ideas

Page history last edited by Garand 12 years, 11 months ago Saved with comment

As this is still a relatively young Wiki, it seemed like a good idea to offer a list of pages that haven't been created but that could be useful. We can edit this list as new ideas come up or as items on the list are taken care of.

For Help Creating Pages

There's a quick guide to some basic formatting and the like on our Primer for Creating Pages.

New Page Ideas

  • List of charities/charitable activities (IE, blood drive, charity auction) around the con
    • pages for each of the major charity items listing goals, participation details, contact info, etc.
  • Pages for more common celebrity attendees?
  • Pages for annual events, like the banquet or parade or the live performances.
    • Pages for performers who have become staples of Dragon*Con
  • Pages for locations, like info on the walk of fame, etc.
  • Updated pages for annual party events.
  • Pages for common terms that newcomers might not recognize immediately, like was done with habitrail and con suite
  • With smartphones becoming more prevalent perhaps a mobile device page would be helpful to offer useful free apps for D*C, complete  with QR codes for easy downloads. Specifically I'm thinking of useful organizational/scheduling apps, social media apps, "fun" apps that may be appropriate for D*C somehow, etc.

Pages that need refreshing annually

Some pages are specific per year, or can be, which may be helpful for archival purposes or some silly crap. Here are some ideas for which that may be helpful

  • Annual List of Party Announcements. There was a 2008 list, then not a 2009. For 2010 it's a generic Parties page.
  • Annual list of special events? The Nimoy/Shatner panel, for instance, is an unusual occurrence that we might want to list for posterity.
  • History of Dragon*Con page will need updates every year.

Pages that need help to reach their full potential

  • Overflow Hotels - These have been broken out into individual pages but details on most are lacking. If anyone has stayed at any of these and are able to provide useful details on what the place is like, please do so.
    • A template for Overflow Hotels has been created for adding new hotels to the listings. When creating a page for an Overflow Hotel, Choose "Use a Template" and select "Overflow Hotel Template" from the drop down box.
    • Updates with room rates and availability will be needed multiple times a year.
  • You can also use this link to find a list of pages with the 'Needs Work' tag (which is pretty much all of them at this point), and with luck you'll be able to provide assistance.
    • The issues on these pages can range from needing better formatting, to needing more information, to needing to be completely written beyond just having one line or one link in there.
    • Some, like FAQ and Tips pages, could always use more information so they've had the tag added as well as a reminder.
  • There are a whole lot of Programming Track pages that have been created but that are essentially empty. A synopsis, or details from someone involved with them, would be very helpful.

Pages that have passed their expiration date

Some of the information presented has been specific to the events of Dragon*Cons Past, and need archiving or updating as is appropriate. You can find these by searching for items with the Outdated tag.

Conducted an informal poll of friends for terms they had not heard prior to coming to D*C. Got a few of them, will list the others here. Not all may be entirely appropriate. Please expand the list where possible. The existing list of glossary terms is here.

  • cosplay deviants
  • scritch and yiff room
  • spat cave
  • con cleavage/trooper boobies
  • room parties (duh?)
