Hyatt

The Hyatt is one of the five host hotels for Dragon*Con. It is connected to the Peachtree Center and the Marriott Marquis through the habitrails, as well as a new walkway constructed prior to the 2010 convention.

Credited as the first atrium style hotel in the world, the Hyatt Regency Atlanta has been around for a long time. Dragon*Con has been hosted here for much of the convention's existence.  The years may have piled up on this location, but it is still center stage with many of the events held here. The Masquerade and most Costume contests are still held here. The Parade passes by it's front door and under it's balconies.

Numerous renovations have been performed over the years, adding the Radius (formerly Ivy Tower), the International Tower, and in 2014, the revampted and newly reopened Polaris restaurant, a Downtown Atlanta Icon and the first rotating restaurant in Atlanta is back in business. For more information please visit http://www.polarisatlanta.com

A recent renovation produced a redesigned lobby in time for Dragon*Con 2011 as well as updates to the 1,260 guest rooms. Adding the International Tower added new convention space. However, 2 of the levels do not directly connect with the older structure. The International ballroom does not connect with the Ballroom level (Centennial and Regency ballrooms and The Learning Center). The Embassy level (Montreal, Vancouver, Cairo, Hong Kong, Geneva, Manila, and Singapore rooms) does not connect with the Exhibit Level (Grand, Hanover, and Chicago Halls). The International tower does connect at the Lobby level and at the lowest level, where the Hyatt's motor lobby (where guests claim their cars) is.  The International tower is serviced by an independent elevator bank, as well as escalators and stairs.

Hotel Pros

  • Most recently renovated hotel of the host hotels
  • Center of the action: this is both a pro and a con, but if you like being where the party is, this is the place to go.
  • The Hyatt has the larger conference rooms where most of the big, popular panels take place.

Hotel Cons

  • Extremely crowded at night
  • Can be impossible to get an elevator at times
  • Massive crowd control issues: in years past the hotel security have prevented people from entering the hotel in the evenings, including (rarely) those who are paying guests.
  • Rooms in the Atrium tower are poorly soundproofed.  Expect to hear noise from the lobby/bar well into the night.

Hotel Features

The Hyatt is where all the real action occurs. The habitrails connect the Hyatt to the Marriott, and indirectly to the Sheraton, but more importantly it provides a vital link to the ever-important Food Court. Many rooms at the Hyatt also feature balconies which can be a good location for watching the parade.
